The phrase that you should study smarter and not harder is absolutely everywhere on social media, but not many people tell you how to actually follow through with this advice. It’s important to know how to approach this technique and thoroughly achieve the state where you’re actually studying smarter.
Understand where and how you study best.
Many people say that you should be studying in silence and that you should always be switching where you study, but this doesn’t work for everyone. If you can’t focus in a silent library, don’t be pressured to study there because it’s just going to harm your productivity. If you can’t focus without music, that’s up to your style! Listen to that Taylor Swift, white noise, or rain sounds—whatever helps you is going to be the best for your studying. It doesn’t matter what studygrammers and studytubers say because we’re all living different lives.
Reconsider multitasking.
Multitasking might sound enticing because it seems like you would be able to get more done, but human brains aren’t designed to multitask. What’s actually happening is that your mind is rapidly switching between each of the things you’re working on, and you can’t get into the deep focus on any of them. Get one thing done at a time and you will be able to get everything done faster!
