It’s not uncommon for us, youth, to hear the phrase, “Live in the moment.” Another favorite of mine? “Enjoy the little things.” Perhaps from our guidance counselors, our mothers, and our elders. As if it's the universal cure for everything! For our worries, our fears, our current situation, for our negative thoughts that seem to only grow stronger the more we try not to think about them.
I’ll be honest.
I was skeptical too. I probably would’ve laughed, rolled my eyes, or taken offense if you had told me that relishing in the simple pleasures in life will solve a whole lot of my problems. Frankly, if you’re anything like me: your first thought when you come across such a slogan is likely something along the lines of: Pleasure can’t be simple. Pain isn’t simple.
Here is where I’d stress to you that maybe, (just maybe!), it's not that crazy a theory at all.
Maybe, the key to zooming out a bit from all the stress is really zooming in a bit more on all the beautiful things, no matter how small they seem. So, in honor of seizing the day - of proving to you that, yes, it's all worth it - I’ve compiled a list of 58 of these so-called “simple” reasons to celebrate life and more importantly, the fact that you’re a part of it.
