A kitchen is a place that I love spending time in because I get to nourish myself and connect with loved ones over a meal. However, sometimes affordable, efficient, and innovative ideas and products are far from reach or many people don’t know where to start. With some inspiration, you can get started on finding simple ways to change your kitchen for the better.
Storing a basket for plastic bags
Many stores have started to cut down on plastic and you are now required to bring your bags. Despite this, many smaller shops like grocery stores, markets, etc. will still offer plastic bags that a lot of people throw away once they get home. One easy step you can take to reuse these bags is to fold the bags up and toss them into a basket or even a drawer or cabinet you have in your kitchen to store these bags. You can roll or fold the plastic bags you get once you arrive home into your desired storage. This eliminates the single use of plastic bags and will be handy for you when you need a bag.
2. Swapping out plastic wrap
Instead of using plastic wrap or cling film to wrap up your leftovers or food, you can alternatively use silicone bowl covers. These covers are affordable (for a set with several different sizes), microwave and dishwasher-safe, and efficient as well. You can go to your local stores to grab a set of silicone bowl covers that come in many unique colors and designs. The covers are microwave-safe, and dishwasher-safe, and even allow you to stack your bowls in your fridge.
3. Growing herbs in your kitchen
Sometimes having herbs on hand for when you cook a delicious meal can be helpful. Herbs like chives, cilantro, oregano, basil, mint, and rosemary are really easy to look after and can just sit on a windowsill. Watering them a few times a week and giving them easy care will allow you to achieve a mini little herb garden that you can add to your food!
