In a world filled with constant distractions and competing interests, the simple joy of reading can often be overshadowed or pushed aside. Yet, within the realm of literature exists a remarkable power - the power to reignite our love for the written word, breathe life into our imagination, and remind us of the enchantment that awaits within the pages.
Where the Crawdads Sing - Delia Owens
A mystery mixed adventure telling a story about a young girl who lives in isolation and is abandoned in the deep marsh. The thrilling book explores Kya’s journey in finding happiness and the people she meets along the way. Raised in the marsh, Kya is forced to explore society and strings along with heartfelt emotions. This book is recommended for people who love a good realistic fiction mixed with mystery. This book was also turned into a movie that is even on Netflix. If you read the book, you can also watch the movie as well! *It has a lot of adult content and romance.*
The Nightingale - Kristin Hannah
One of the best historical fiction books that I’ve ever read and it follows the story of two sisters during WW2. Two sisters with opposite personalities go through their lives and the story weaves back and forth between their experiences. Vivianne lives with her husband and daughter, but her husband leaves for war and she is left to take care of her daughter while war approaches her neighbourhood. Her daily life drastically changes as Germans invade her town and she has to try to survive. Isabella is Viviane’s younger sister and she is the opposite of Viviane. She’s rebellious and joins a resistance group. She isn’t scared of war and is only looking for freedom. Throughout the book, we see the character progression as well as how their differences and similarities bring them together. *It has a lot of adult content*
The Last Time We Say Goodbye - Cynthia Hand
This book stresses the topic of mental health struggles for teenagers. It touches the idea of family, especially sibling love. A girl named Lex was once “perfect”, but once her brother Tyler kills himself, her life turns upside down. Everyone pities her and she’s only known for her brother’s death. Lex explores his death and finds puzzles in his death that lead her to uncover the truth about his death. The book expresses the ideas of isolation as well as dealing with grief. *Has a lot of sensitive and emotional topics*
