Everyone is so scared to grow old to have wrinkles and be above the age of 29. Especially women are told that aging is the worst thing that could possibly happen to them. Nobody is going to love them if they’re not the epitome of youth and beauty. Most people struggle with the fear of becoming old and therefore dealing with more health issues. However, many people rather fear looking old, becoming unattractive or just not being young anymore. But why is that?
What’s so wrong with being old?
First of all, 30+ isn't old. Even if Social Media makes you believe it is, it is definitely not. Your twenties don’t have to be the highlight of your whole life and it doesn’t just go downhill from there. Your age doesn’t define you and your wrinkles don’t show your worth. You can have the best party in your life when you’re 37 years old, meet your best friend when you’re 43 and marry the love of your life when you’re 55. It doesn’t matter what age you are, it matters how you live your life and what you make out of it. Not everybody peeks in highschool or college, actually most people don’t and that’s neither good nor bad it’s just life.
I can’t wait to get wiser, be more experienced and grow my confidence. Those things can only result in aging and it’s a beautiful process. I want to know what it feels like to be 21, 35 and 50. Every year is a gift and I won’t be ashamed if you can see my age. My wrinkles of joy or of struggle, they reflect my life and everything I accomplished. I'm gonna wear them with pride. When I am that age I should be proud and grateful because I have the chance to experience it. Not everybody has the privilege to grow old, so enjoy it and be thankful if you do.
Another important point to mention is that aging is beautiful. Not only older men can be attractive but older women as well and I don’t mean older women that look young I mean women can look old and gorgeous at the same time (I know shocking). Old age is not the opposite of beauty; they can and do co-exist. The obsession of youthful and pure women is just disgusting and rooted in misogyny. Therefore wear your age with confidence, it is beautiful to see all these years you lived through on your body.
So next time you are scared of aging remember that it is natural, it is a beautiful journey and a privilege. It’s normal to be afraid of things you don’t know or can’t control but that doesn’t mean you should be ashamed. You have so much time and you’re gonna be able to experience and learn so much and aging makes all that possible. Instead of being scared, try to think about the positive sides of aging. You're gonna meet new people that will become important to you, you might find a new hobby which brings you joy or discover your dream job. You’ll never know when it happens but you can try to be excited about what the future holds.
So with everything said: I can’t wait to grow old!
Yours Truly,
Dear Youth Global,
